Ozark Family Guide: Parks, Events & Kid Favorites
Ozark is one of those towns that keeps getting better. It's a straight shot up Highway 65 from Springfield, it's got a gorgeous riverfront park, a great library, and a growing food scene. If you haven't been exploring Ozark with your kids, here's your sign.
Finley River Park — The Crown Jewel
Finley River Park — 205 N 1st St, Ozark
This is the park I tell everyone about. Riverfront views, walking trails (the Ozark Park Trail and Finley River Trail), playgrounds, sports fields, and river access for kayaking and fishing. It's free, it's gorgeous, and my kids never want to leave.
It also has THREE reservable pavilions — the Red, Yellow, and Blue pavilions — perfect for birthday parties and family gatherings. Contact the City of Ozark (417-581-7002) to reserve one.
And the events! Finley River Park hosts the Sertoma Duck Races, the Ozark Craft Fair (running since 1973!), Festival of Frights, and the Festival of Lights — a free drive-thru Christmas light display with over a mile of twinkling lights. That last one is pure magic with little kids.
The Library
Christian County Library — Ozark Branch — 1005 N 4th Ave
Storytimes, kids' programs, summer reading, trivia nights, and all the free books you can carry. The library system here genuinely works hard for families — take advantage of it.
The OC (Ozark Community Center)
1530 W Jackson St, Ozark — 417-581-7002
The community center has an aquatic facility with a lazy river and water slide, plus fitness classes and youth programs. A great rainy-day or winter option when the parks aren't calling.
Finley Farms — Worth the Trip
802 Finley Farms Lane, Ozark
This is the gorgeous restored mill property on the Finley River — restaurants (including The Ozark Mill), coffee, workshops, and events. It's a little more "date day" than "kids day," but they host family-friendly events and the grounds are beautiful for a stroll. The farmers market here is lovely too.
Kid-Friendly Bites
Ozark's food scene has grown up a lot. The downtown square area has local spots the kids will like, and the Finley Farms restaurants are a treat. My rule: if the kids were good at the park, we find somewhere fun to eat. Bribery works. I'm not ashamed.
Why Ozark Deserves a Day Trip
Between Finley River Park, the library, and Finley Farms, you can easily fill a whole family day in Ozark without spending much. Pack a picnic, hit the trails, let the kids play, and drive home with everyone pleasantly tired.
That's a win in my book. 💛
