Indoor Halloween Events Tonight in the 417 — Saturday, October 31, 2026 (Rain Plan!)

Mamas, the forecast is not our friend tonight. ๐ง️ Showers are likely right through prime trick-or-treat time — about a 55–60% chance of rain between 6 and 9 PM, with temps sliding into the low 60s. But Halloween is NOT cancelled! I pulled together every INDOOR option in the 417 for tonight — library parades, a museum Halloween party, a giant FREE church party, an aquarium dive hunt, and even a trunk-or-treat hiding inside a parking garage where the rain can't touch it. Bookmark this one and stay dry. ๐
๐ Morning (all indoors!)
Bass Pro Shops — FREE Halloween Leaf Craft & Photo · starts 9:30 AM · Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World, 1935 S. Campbell Ave, Springfield · FREE · Kids make a leaf craft and get a free digital photo, right inside the store. (Announced for participating Bass Pro/Cabela's locations — Springfield's flagship is the big one, but give their page a quick peek before you go.)
Show Your Character Event — Springfield Little Theatre · 9 AM–2 PM · The Judy, 237 S. Florence Ave, Springfield · $10 all ages · SLT's annual Halloween celebration inside their theatre building: youth troupe performances, carnival games, pumpkin painting, character meet-and-greets and photo ops.
Halloween Storytime & Costume Parade — The Library Center · 10 AM and 11 AM · 4653 S. Campbell Ave, Springfield · FREE · Not-so-spooky stories and songs, then a costume trick-or-treat parade around the library. Best for infants to age 6.
Halloween at the Museum — Discovery Center · 10 AM–5 PM (costume contest 1 PM) · 438 E. St. Louis St, Springfield · Kids 3–15 $12 · Adults $17 · Ages 0–2 and members FREE · A whole day of indoor, allergy-friendly trick-or-treating and spooky science experiments, with Bluey and Ghostbusters characters — and the costume contest winner takes home a Family Membership. This one runs until 5 PM, so it works even if your morning is packed!
Moxie Mornings — FREE Kids Movie · 10 AM · Moxie Cinema, 305 S. Campbell Ave, Springfield · FREE · Start Halloween day with a free kids' movie in a cozy theatre seat.
Spooky Spotters Dive Hunt — Wonders of Wildlife · dive sessions 10:00 & 10:30 AM and 1:00 & 1:30 PM · 500 W. Sunshine St, Springfield · Free with regular aquarium admission · Pick a hidden numbered object at the Great Barrier Reef exhibit and the divers retrieve it to reveal a prize — candy, LEGO sets, even animal encounters.
Monster Mash Costume Parade — Library Station · 11 AM · 2535 N. Kansas Expressway, Springfield · FREE · Stories first, then a costume parade through the library collecting treats along the way.
Harleyween Trunk or Treat — Renegade Harley-Davidson · 11 AM · 3980 W. Sunshine St, Springfield · A daytime trunk-or-treat for little ones that moves indoors into the showroom if the weather turns — and today, it has turned.
☀️ Afternoon — the big FREE one
October 31st Party — James River Church · 1–5 PM · Ozark campus: 6100 N. 19th St, Ozark · Springfield West: 3953 W. Farm Road 168 · Springfield North: 3225 N. Farm Road 123 · FREE · Built for infants through 5th grade: giant inflatables, a live dance party, a show, costume characters and TONS of candy — the party itself is indoors (the pumpkin patch and free kettle corn may be outside). If your afternoon is spoken for until 3 or so, you can still catch the last two hours of this one!
Halloween at the Museum — Discovery Center also runs until 5 PM (details in the morning section above), so it's a perfect post-lunch, pre-dinner stop.
๐ Evening — after the rain rolls in
CoxHealth Trunk or Treat — Wheeler Heart & Vascular Center · 5–8 PM · Parking garage, 3801 S. National Ave, Springfield · FREE · My #1 evening pick: this beloved trunk-or-treat happens INSIDE the covered parking garage, so the candy run stays dry no matter what the sky does. Trunk-or-treat booths, ambulance tours, games, hot chocolate, popcorn and hot dogs. Arrive early — it's a Springfield institution.
City Hall Haunt & Community Fall Festival — Republic · 5–8 PM · 224 N. Main Ave, Republic · FREE · The Republic Historical Society's Family Fun Carnival is indoors, plus trunk-or-treating outside if the rain lets up, and a prize for the best-decorated vehicle.
Hotel of Terror & Dungeons of Doom — FINAL NIGHT · evening hours · 334 N. Main Ave & 701 W. Wall St, Springfield · $25 per haunt / $45 combo · For the TEENS: Springfield's legendary indoor haunted houses, scaring the Ozarks since 1978 — and tonight is the Hotel of Terror's last night EVER before it closes for good. Legit scary: a hard NO for little kids, a huge yes for your brave older ones.
Pythian Castle Ghost Tours · 1451 E. Pythian St, Springfield · around $20 · An indoor tour of a real 1913 castle — spooky stories and atmosphere instead of jump scares, recommended for ages 8+. October dates sell out, so book ahead and confirm tonight's tour times.
More fully-indoor backup plans: Andy B's (1127 E. Battlefield Rd) — bowling, arcade and laser tag, all under one roof, with a Halloween Flash Sale running Oct 30–31 ($100 arcade card for $40). And Incredible Pizza (2850 S. Campbell Ave) — buffet, arcade and indoor go-karts, with kids 3 and under eating free every day. Neither has a special Halloween-night event this year that I could confirm, but both are 100% dry and open tonight.
One honest note, mamas: I checked hard for Battlefield Mall trick-or-treating and could NOT confirm a 2026 mall event — the mall is open today, but don't count on store-to-store candy there tonight. And as always with church and community events, give the organizer's page a quick peek before you load up the kids — rain can shuffle plans at the last minute.
Stay dry out there, and happy Halloween, 417! ๐๐งก
