Christmas in Springfield Is Coming: Events to Put on Your Radar

I know, I know — it's barely October. But hear me out: the moms who have the magical Christmas are the moms who planned it in October. So let's get these on your radar now, 417. 🎄

Annual Favorites — Check Back for 2026 Dates 📌

These happen every year, but 2026 details aren't announced yet. I'll update this post as dates drop:

ZooLights at Dickerson Park Zoo — The zoo does a holiday lights event each season. Glowing animal exhibits + Christmas lights = kids' heaven.

Holiday Farmstead at Rutledge-Wilson Farm Park — A farm Christmas with lights and family fun. This one is pure 417 magic.

Festival of Lights at Finley River Park, Ozark — A FREE drive-through light display at 891 N Riverside Rd in Ozark, typically running mid-November through Christmas. Load up the minivan, bring hot cocoa, don't even make the kids put on shoes.

Bagwell Lights — 📍 2008 E Cambridge St, Springfield. This display was featured on TV's "The Great Christmas Light Fight," and it earns it. Typically runs Thanksgiving night through New Year's Eve with music synced to 105.5 FM. Free.

Festival of Lights, Monett — A free drive-through display at the intersection of Hwy 37 & 60, typically running from the day before Thanksgiving through December 31.

Silver Dollar City — An Old Time Christmas — The big one, down in Branson. Millions of lights, Christmas shows, the whole works. Worth the drive at least once.

Shepherd of the Hills Trail of Lights, Branson — A classic drive-through trail, typically November through New Year's.

Every Kid Gets A Christmas (Freeway Ministries) — Their annual gift event where kids leave with wrapped presents. Watch for the 2026 announcement.

Free Neighborhood Light Displays

Macaroni Kid Springfield keeps a running list of house light displays around town (the Snook's Holiday Sensation, Lights on LaSiesta, Underwood Lights, and more — most free, many collecting donations for good causes). I'll share the 2026 list when it's updated. Pro tip: the free house displays are often MORE exciting to kids than the big commercial ones, because they're weird and wonderful and somebody's actual house.

My Christmas Game Plan

Here's what I'm doing: Angel Tree registration in late October, one big lights night the week before Christmas (Finley River Park is free and we can stay in pajamas), and the Botanical Gardens' Gardens Aglow on one of its three nights. That's it. Three things. Magical Christmas, zero debt, zero burnout.

Bookmark this page — I'll update it with 2026 dates as they're announced. And tell me on Facebook: what's YOUR must-do Springfield Christmas tradition? 🎄
