Indoor Halloween Events Tonight in the 417 — Saturday, October 31, 2026 (Rain Plan!)

🏠 The 417 Mom — Home · 🔥 Today's Deals · 💛 Networking Mama Hub Mamas, the forecast is not our friend tonight. 🌧️ Showers are likely right through prime trick-or-treat time — about a 55–60% chance of rain between 6 and 9 PM, with temps sliding into the low 60s. But Halloween is NOT cancelled! I pulled together every INDOOR option in the 417 for tonight — library parades, a museum Halloween party, a giant FREE church party, an aquarium dive hunt, and even a trunk-or-treat hiding inside a parking garage where the rain can't touch it. Bookmark this one and stay dry. 🎃 🌅 Morning (all indoors!) Bass Pro Shops — FREE Halloween Leaf Craft & Photo · starts 9:30 AM · Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World, 1935 S. Campbell Ave, Springfield · FREE · Kids make a leaf craft and get a free digital photo, right inside the store. November in the 417 Without the Scramble: 7 Family Dates to Put on the Calendar This Week

November in the 417 Without the Scramble: 7 Family Dates to Put on the Calendar This Week Halloween week is not even over yet, and November is already coming in hot. As a mom of six here in the 417, I have learned that November does not sneak up on you — it ambushes you. One minute you are sorting candy, the next every free Santa photo, parade and craft fair is on the same Saturday and you missed the one you wanted. So this year I sat down this week and put these seven dates on the calendar NOW. Most are free, a couple are planned splurges, and all of them are easier if you claim the date before your weekends fill up. 🏠 The 417 Mom home · 🔥 Today's Deals · 💛 Networking Mama hub + Start Here page 1. 🏠 The 417 Mom home  ·  🔥 Today's Deals  ·  💛 Networking Mama hub Halloween lands on a Saturday this year, friends — and the whole 417 is showing up for it. 🎃 I went hunting for every trunk-or-treat, fall festival, costume parade, and free family event happening on Saturday, October 31, 2026 , from right here in Springfield all the way out to the little towns, so you don't have to spend your evening scrolling a dozen different pages. There are 66 events on this list, and the overwhelming majority of them are completely FREE. Everything is organized by area so you can find something close to home, pick one or two, and call it a wonderful day. Prices are marked exactly how I found them — FREE, a dollar amount, or "not stated" when the listing didn't say. Church and community events can change, so give the organizer's page a quick peek before you load up the kids. 🎃 Springfield 15 events — you could fill the whole day without leaving town. Ha...

Library Day, But Make It a System: How 417 Families Get the Most Out of the Springfield-Greene County Library

🏠 The 417 Mom Home  ·  🔥 Today's Deals  ·  💛 Networking Mama Hub Library Day, But Make It a System: How 417 Families Get the Most Out of the Springfield-Greene County Library Can I tell you about the most underused free resource in the 417? It's not a park or a splash pad — it's your library card. Most of us treat the library like a vending machine: run in, grab two books, run out. But the Springfield-Greene County Library District is built like a whole system, and once you learn to work the system, it quietly becomes your family's free entertainment department, your homeschool supplement shelf, your rainy-day backup plan, and your "I'm out of ideas and out of money" answer — all in one card. Here's how we do library day at our house, and how to squeeze every drop out of yours. The ten-branch trick: your card works everywhere First thing most families don't realize: the district has ten branches — the Library Center and Libra...

Indoor Play in the 417: How to Plan a Bad-Weather Day Out (By Age, Budget & Energy Level)

Photo: Wikimedia Commons (public domain). 🏠 The 417 Mom Home  ·  🔥 Today's Deals  ·  💛 Networking Mama Hub Indoor Play in the 417: How to Plan a Bad-Weather Day Out (By Age, Budget & Energy Level) Here's a thing I've learned as a mom of six in Springfield: the rainy day itself is never the disaster. The disaster is standing in the kitchen at 9 a.m. with six kids climbing the walls, Googling "indoor stuff near me" while everybody melts down — including me. The fix isn't a longer list of places. The fix is a plan you make once, on a calm day, so future gray mornings take about ninety seconds. I already keep two rainy-day posts here on the blog — my Rainy Day Rescue playbook (the at-home system and the rainy day bin) and our big list of 12 indoor things to do with kids in Springfield . This post is the layer that sits on top of both: how to pick th...

The weather turns gorgeous, the kids get that wild October energy, and my wallet starts whispering, "please, not another $80 afternoon." As a mom of six here in the 417, I've had to get genuinely good at this: full, fun, memory-making days out that cost nothing — or close to it. So here is my honest Springfield list. Every place on it is real, local, and checked as of this fall. The first four are completely FREE. The last three charge admission, but they're the ones where a big-family mom can still come out ahead — especially if you run the membership math I'll show you. I'd rather tell you a little less than tell you ...

Snow-Day Ready in the 417: 7 Things to Sort Before the First School Closing Hits

Snow-Day Ready in the 417: 7 Things to Sort Before the First School Closing Hits Ozarks weather loves a plot twist. One week we're in t-shirts at a fall festival, and a few weeks later we're refreshing our phones at 5 a.m. wondering if school is actually happening. As a mom of six here in the 417, I've learned a snow day is only fun if Future You isn't scrambling — hunting for a learning packet, texting three people about pickup, and realizing the boots from last winter don't fit anybody. You don't need a big prep project. Just sort these seven little things now, while the sun is still shining, and the first closing gets to be cozy instead of chaotic. 🏠 The 417 Mom home · 🔥 Today's Deals · 💛 Networking Mama hub + Start Here page 1. Know Exactly How YOUR District Will Tell You Sort it: Every district in the 417 announces closings a little differently — an app notification, a text, an email, a call, the district website and social pages, and the local T...

The Big 417 Playground Guide: 55 Playgrounds from Springfield to Branson

Image
🏠 The 417 Mom — Home  ·  🔥 Today's Deals  ·  💛 Networking Mama Hub Okay, mamas — this one is YOUR fault. 😄 I shared my little "417 Playground Picks" list on the Facebook Page, and y'all showed UP in the comments with favorites I'd never even heard of. So I did what any reasonable mom would do: I turned your picks into the biggest playground guide I could build. Here it is — 55 playgrounds across the whole 417 , from north Springfield all the way down to Branson, organized by area so you can find your closest one fast. For every park I've noted the stuff we actually care about: shade, toddler areas, inclusive equipment, bathrooms, pavilions, and splash pads. If a park doesn't have a feature listed, I couldn't verify it — I'd rather tell you less than tell you wrong. And it keeps growing — you asked about favorites I'd missed, so I went back and verified even more of them. Nichols Park, this one's for you! 💦 One honest note abo...
